By Developing Your Coping Skills.

If Determined, How do I Develop?

In my Opinion, there are thousands of ways available to Develop these Coping Skills. But it Varies based on Your Personality, Behavior, Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Quotient, IQ, Family Background, Life Experience etc.. So In this Article, We would be discussing the Key Skills Applicable for almost 99% of the Crowd to develop their Coping Skills, Which can make Significant Difference to get Good Mental Health (GMH) Better Life Experience (BLE).

As a First Step, Let us list down the Mandatory Key Skills:

1. Self-Introspection

  • Know your strong points and limitations.
  • Know Your Strength & Weaknesses
  • Know Your Resources in Terms of Knowledge, Money & Materials
  • Feel Proud of Your Strength
  • Stop Worrying About Your Weaknesses & Limitations
  • Do not compare yourself with people who are better than you
  • Always Compare & Compete With Yourself by doing Periodical Self Assessment to Ensure Continuous Learning & Continuous Improvement Through Evolutionary Approach
  • Look at People Below You as well & Periodically Assess Your Actions & Reactions, Make Necessary Changes to Suit Yourself & Others

2. Cultivate People

  • Stop Criticizing Others, Stop Finding Fault with Others.
  • Show Respect to Elders & Love Youngsters.
  • Cultivate Friendship. Request People to Support You and Help You in Time of Distress.
  • Do Not Hesitate to Ask for Help When You Know That You Cannot Handle the Problem or Situation Alone.
  • Expect Less From Your Family Members, Friends & Colleagues, Relatives. Try to give more to them.
  • In turn, They will come to Your Help and Rescue When You are in Trouble.

3. Play Your Role Properly

  • Each one of us have to Play Different Roles in our Family Occupations & Social Life. As a Parent, As a Spouse, As a Brother or a Sister, As an Employee, As an Employer, As a Friend and So on.
  • Understand Role-Responsibilities and Make an Honest Effort to Fit into Role and Rise to the Occasion.

4. Discipline Yourself & Manage Your Resources

  • Whether it is time, money, materials, every one of us have constraints. None of us have the Luxury of Having Unlimited Resources.
  • Therefore, We have to Plan, Prioritize our Needs and Allot Time, Money & Materials Accordingly.
  • For example, if you are earning Rs. 20000/- a month, You must Allot Money for basic needs like food, cloth, water & Electricity Bill, Rent & School/College fees of Children.
  • Later, If You are able to Save Money, then Only Think of Buying Luxury Items, Gifts to Others, Celebrations, Outing Etc..

5. Understand the Problem & Situation

  • Before you plan any action or react to them try to know how and when the problem started, who has contributed to it, What are the aggravating factors and What could be the outcome.

6. Positive Attitude

  • Tell your self that you will do your best and Stop worrying about the Results
  • Keep Trying and Keep Working
  • Be optimistic and tell yourself that you will succeed, You will be able to manage and sail through the problem

7. Set Attainable Goals, Make Action Plans

  • Set goals which are practicable and realistic
  • Keep pursuing your goals
  • Periodically look at your gains and feel happy, this can improve your self-esteem

8. Stop Worrying when things go wrong

  • Do not worry about the Past or Future
  • Live for the Present
  • Learn from Your Past Mistakes or Other’s Mistakes
  • Make Appropriate Changes in Your Attitudes, Work-plan So that You do not Repeat the Mistakes

9. Face One Problem At a Time

  • If You have Many Problems in Hand, Make a List of these Problems and Think Which One You have to Handle First
  • Handle the Selected Problem at a Time
  • Once You Manage it, Take the Second.
  • Involve in this Process So that They Can Handle Some of the Problems and Help You

10. Share Your Failures & Frustrations

  • Share Your Failures, Frustrations, Negative Emotions with Your Family Members and Intimate People
  • You Feel Relieved, Suppressed Feelings are Painful and Makes You Very Unhappy and Uncomfortable.
  • Sharing Your Problems with Others Helps You to Feel Good and Comfortable.

11. Shun the Superman & Super Woman Image of Yourself

  • Remember, You Need Not be An “Abhimanyu” or “Arjuna”
  • Remember, You are An Ordinary Person.
  • Remember, You Need Not Take All the Load In Your Shoulders

12. Relaxation

  • In Between Your Busy Schedule & Work, Find A Few Minutes to Relax.
  • Stretch Yourself in the Chair.
  • Take a Deep & Slow Breath Ten Times
  • Think of “Happy Moments” of Your Life
  • Bring Images of People You Like or Love in Front of You
  • Look at Flowers, Plants, Trees, Birds or Animals or Children
  • Enjoy Nature’s Creation
  • Music, Chat, Light Reading, Chit-Chat with Friends / Colleagues / A Cup of Fruit Juice / Milk / Cool Water, All these helps You to Relax.

13. Physical Activities

  • Every Morning & Evening, Spend an Hour or So in Activities like:
  1. Sports
  2. Exercises
  3. Yoga
  4. Meditation
  5. Gardening
  6. Any Other Physical Activity

14. Help Others

  • Do Good to Others Through a Kind Word or a Good Gesture
  • Donate something you can Afford to Involve Yourself in Some Service Activity.
  • Have a Nice Feeling of Doing Something Good to Others
  • This will Help You to Find ‘A Meaning and A Purpose’ Life, Which Increases Your Self Confidence

15. Keep Yourself Away

  • Keep Away from:
  1. Tobacco
  2. Alcohol
  3. Sedatives
  4. Hypnotics
  5. Any Other Harmful Substances / Habits

16. Take Good Food

  • Eat Food Rich in Protein, Vitamins & Minerals.
  • Eat at Regular Intervals
  • When You Eat Feel Relaxed & Enjoy Eating
  • This is possible if you have food along with people you like and in a Healthy Environment
  • Stop Eating Excess Sweets / Fatty / Oily Items.
  • Stop Eating in Between the Meals

17. Lead a Simple & Contented Life

  • Do not go after:
  1. Luxuries Life
  2. Materialistic life.
  3. Live Simple Life
  4. Live An Environment-Friendly Life.

18. Develop Interest in Cultural Activities

  • Evince Keen Interest & Participate in Cultural Activities Like:
  1. Music
  2. Dance
  3. Theater
  4. Fine Arts
  5. Traditional Sports Specific to Living or Home Town etc..
